After a successful season and sectional tournament, the Northeastern Men’s Ultimate team found themselves competing at the University of Rhode Island in the New England D-1 Regional Tournament. Saturday May 3, brought the Huskies to pool play with Brown, UMass Dartmouth, and MIT. MIT was first, resulting in a 15-5 Huskie win to start the day. Up next was UMass Dartmouth who also fell to the Huskies 13-11, providing the second win of the day. The strength of Brown University ended up proving to be too much as Northeastern dropped their 3rd game 15-9 to end pool play holding seed. The final game of Saturday began bracket play against Williams College and it provided the Huskies one of their 2 losses allowed before being eliminated from Nationals contention. Northeastern took half 8-5 but then struggled to close out and ended losing 14-12.
Sunday gave Northeastern the chance to bounce back and look to keep moving forward with wins. The extremely windy conditions made for some interesting play through the first game with Boston-area rival Boston College. A 13-9 win was garnered and put the Huskies back up against Brown who had beaten them the day before. In another windy game, soft cap went off during half time with the score 8-6 Brown. A final score of 10-7 in favor of Brown ended Northeastern’s bracket play and their chance for Nationals. This left the team in 8th place, an improvement of finishing in 9th place the last 2 years, which had allowed the team to enter Sunday still in Nationals contention.
Our female counterparts, the Valkyries, will be returning to Nationals this year in Cincinnati, Ohio. Good luck Valks!
