The Northeastern University Gentlemen's Club visited Yale University this past weekend for the annual fall Coffee Cup Tournament with a winning attitude and a chip on their shoulder. Despite trips to New England Regionals and Sectionals the past two years, the Gentlemen's Club was seeded 14th out of 16 teams in what is considered the fall's biggest tournament in the New England Region.
Follow up:
After opening pool play with a dissapointing loss to Canada's Carleton University the Gents fought back with a big win against rival Brown University to put them back in contention. The Gentlemen's Club had never beaten Brown in any previous games or tournaments. Led by the inspiring play of Captains David Picard and Brian Halayko they clawed their way back from two deficits before finally putting Brown away . The Gentleman's Club finished pool play 1-2 after a heartbreaking loss to MIT and set their sights on proving they were better than advertised by breaking seed. The Gents blew by WPI and Dartmouth B by a total combined score of 20-8 to secure a spot in the B Bracket Championship against 6th-seeded Maryland University. After falling behind 4-0 the Gents fought back to tie the game at 5-5 only to relinquish the lead and tie it again at 9-9. After trading points, Maryland gained the advantage and eventually won the game 13-11 to finish 9th. This left the Gentlemen's Club to place a respectable but misleading 10th overall. With the fall season coming to a close the Gentleman's Club look to build on their success at Yale and are poised for yet another magnificent Spring season.
