Gentlemen Claim 2nd Place in Metro Boston Section | April 24, 2007

With a 15-12 victory over Yale Cup champion Harvard, Northeastern officially threw its hat into the ring of contenders at the upcoming New England Open Regional Tournament. With the win, NU has taken the 2nd seed out of the Metro Boston Section and all but guaranteed themselves a top five seeding at Regionals. The victory, which was played well after the rest of the Sectional matchups, wrapped up a successful tournament which took a week and a half to complete.

Ten days earlier, the Gentlemen's Club entered pool play as the 5th seed, anticipating games against Boston College-B, Tufts-B, and Boston University. The early morning featured a game against BC-B. The gents took care of business. Final score, 15-2.

Following a bye, NU came out both sluggish and over confident, letting Tufts-B slip out to a 4-0 lead. After a crucial timeout, and much needed kick in the ass, Northeastern woke up. The sidelines got loud and the play improved dramatically. Rolling, NU put Tufts-B away. Final score, 15-7.

In the final game of pool play the gentlemen faced the 4th seeded Ozone Pilots of Boston University. Two very equal teams, NU and BU played even throughout the game, enduring several lead changes and eventually finding themselves at universe point, 14-14. With the disc deep in their endzone, the Ozone Pilots' handlers were able to patiently move the disc around NU's zone defense. After a long possession, BU finished the point, taking an emotional game. Final score, 14-15.

Sunday featured typical New England Spring weather, including rain, snow and hail. However, the gents came into the day with a chip on their shoulders that not even the foul weather could eliminate. In the first round, NU matched up against rival Brandeis. Despite the weather, Northeastern refused to turn over the disc. Led by sophomore Will Neff, senior Camden Kittredge and a solid team defense, NU cruised, setting the tone for the rest of the day. Final score, 13-3.

In game two, the Gentlemen's Club went toe-to-toe with the Tufts E-men. In a heavy snow, the gents offense again refused to turn over the disc, while the defense again stepped up. Northeastern jumped ahead early, and thanks to intense play and the loudest sideline at the tournament, Tufts could never mentally get into the game. Final score, 13-3.

In a rematch, Northeastern again squared off against BU. Learning from their loss on Saturday, NU's defense forced the disc out of the hands of BU's stars. Frustrated, the Ozone Pilots began to turn the disc over, while the gents continued to play solid offense. Avenging their loss on Saturday, Northeastern wins. Final score, 13-5. Due to inclement weather, the final round of the tournament was postponed. Two games, Harvard v. Northeastern and Tufts v. Boston College, would be played at a later date to name the two and five seeds respectively.

Played at Harvard on April 24th, the Gentlemen's Club and Redline met underneath the lights in front of a big Boston crowd. Fired up, Northeastern's big athletes came up huge. Camden Kittredge, in particular, was all over the field, scoring a majority of the gentlemen's points, including a momentum building Callahan. Off to an early lead, NU was able to keep Harvard at arms length the entire game. Final score, 15-12.

Northeastern finished the tournament as the two seed, breaking seed by three positions. The gentlemen compiled a 6-1 record throughout the tournament, outscoring opponents 98-47. Seedings for Regionals should be released shortly.
